Support South Park Striking Education Staff

Commit to the SPEA Strike Fund

South Park EA is gearing up for a possible strike that could start sometime within the next several weeks. One of the many ways we can demonstrate our collective power is by pledging money to their strike fund, either individually or as local associations. The money raised will support striking educators who will be without income for the duration of a strike. Make a pledge at this link – right now, only pledges are needed. Reach out to Misty Hart (mhart@coloradoea.org) with any questions.

Make an Ask for Childcare Help

Should Park County educators be forced to strike, SPEA is arranging childcare with the Boys & Girls Club of South Park to support students and families. Educators who can help provide childcare at the Club for families in need should email Christine Wiggins (cwiggins@coloradoea.org).

Donate to the Food Bank

SPEA members will soon host a food and goods drive for Boys and Girls Club to help serve the community. The collected food will help support educators, students and their community in the event of a strike. CEA will continue collecting food donations for SPEA until close of business this Thur., Oct. 3. Please bring by non-perishable items to CEA HQ to help show our collective support for South Park Educators and their community.

Stop stalling Park County School District – meet with your educators. Read in Chalkbeat about the financial pressure educators are under trying to live where they teach…

“Housing costs have surged in recent years. Fairplay and the surrounding area have long served as bedroom communities for more expensive ski resort areas like Breckenridge, but as Summit County has become unaffordable, demand for housing has increased in Park County as well. ‘Several of our new teachers are living with their parents,’ Mastrobuono said. ‘I would not be able to live here if I didn’t have a second income from my husband or if we hadn’t bought our house 16 years ago.’ The teachers union charges that persistent low wages have driven high turnover rates in the district. Ten out of 40 teachers are new this year.”
