Hello Valued Members,

This week was National Boss Day and I wanted to thank all of you members again for trusting me to represent you.  You are the best bosses in the world! Things have been busy at the WEA.

Peter Morris and I have been busy visiting schools and departments to introduce ourselves and share the new direction of WEA.  The response has been overwhelmingly positive.  It has been great getting to know all of you a little better.  We still have a few more places to visit and then we will be back out to see all of you again.  Our membership is growing but we still have more room to grow.  Please encourage your colleagues to join.

We have two events happening next week where I hope to see many of you. WEA will have a table at the District Showcase on Tuesday, October 22nd from 5-7 p.m. at Westminster High School.  If you aren’t representing another school, please stop by or volunteer to help hand out WEA goodies and candy to the residents or our District.  If you are representing another school, wear your WEA shirt so we can show everyone we are strong and proud WEA members.  If you need a shirt, please call the office at (303) 427-1734 and we can get one for you.

WEA will be hosting the first of several all WEA meetings scheduled for this year on Thursday, October 24th from 5-7 p.m. in the Lecture Hall at Westminster High School.  Representatives from LANDED, a company that provides down payment assistance to educators will be the featured speaker.  We will also be giving a presentation on how to navigate student contact and relationships in today’s world of social media.  I hope to see you there.

WEA supported CEA, Superintendents, principals and school boards across the state asking the State Board of Education not to change the performance frameworks on state testing for school districts.  The State Board didn’t listen and did change the performance framework so we will continue to fight.  We need to ensure that we find and elect pro PUBLIC education candidates for open seats on the state board and the legislature.

I just returned from Washington DC and a New President’s training at NEA.  It was nice to work with Association Presidents from all over the country.  My belief that WEA and Westminster Public Schools has the best educators in the world was validated.  We really are a special place.  The fact that we represent all educators in our district is not the norm and is something to be celebrated.

We are sending support to our colleagues in South Park and educators in Chicago as they are out on strike for higher wages and better working conditions.

I hope you all have a great weekend and look forward to seeing you all soon.

Thanks,

Fran
